Definition
Nasal polyps are also known as polypoidal masses. They are small benign growths around the edges of the nose or sinus cavities and are often sore and uncomfortable. The growth causes inflammation of the sinuses. Polyps are generally described as grape-like in shape, having either a gray, pink, or yellow hue to it and tend to have the consistency of jelly.
Causes
While it is not certain what causes nasal polyps, they are often linked to allergies and often aggravate existing allergic reactions. They may result from the sinuses chronically inflamed due to asthma, recurring infection or sinusitis; hay fever caused by pollen, or some types of allergies, such as an allergy to aspirin, can lead to the formation of nasal polyps.
Symptoms
Small polyps are not troublesome. At the same time, bigger ones may lead to migraines. Another change that could happen is the increase in snoring. Some facial changes may occur too, in certain cases. It is the larger polyps that cause stuffy nose, obstruct entry of air as well as mucus drainage making it difficult to breath while in a supine position, gives a feeling of mucus dripping down the back of the throat, as well as cause a decrease in the sensation of smell or taste. In some sufferers, symptoms may also include headaches, snoring, and a persistent runny nose. Some patients might face difficulty in hearing.
Common treatments for polyps include injections and surgery, but surgical treatments are being tried by many patients, who report that the polyps keep coming back after a while, in addition to being very expensive. With most sufferers not desirous of going under the surgeon’s knife, natural treatment methods can help in eliminating this problem in an effective manner. Natural treatments are the easiest to administer and inexpensive. Here are a number of natural home remedies that have been shown to reduce or even eliminate these irritating growths permanently.
NATURAL TIPS TO CURE POLYPS WITHOUT SURGERY
25 Nasal Rinse/Irrigation/Wash
A nasal rinse, generally a Saline, Epsom salts, Rock or Sea saltwater solution can help remove allergens and irritants that can contribute to nasal polyps. Using a sterilized empty nasal spray bottle, syringe, a dropper, soft rubber ear bulb syringe, infant nasal bulb or neti pot apply the solution inside the nasal cavity through each nostril, and breathe in ensuring the solution travels through the entire nasal passages.
Frequent nasal rinses will aid in keeping the nasal passages clear of allergens that may be contributing to this condition. Perform these Nasal Rinses/Irrigations/Washes every day until the polyps reduce.

1-Epsom salt Rinse
- Prepare a solution by combining ½ teaspoon of Epsom salt in a cup of lukewarm water and use this to flush the nasal cavities daily to prevent sinus infections and allergic reactions.
2-Sea salt Rinse
- The nasal region can also be rinsed on a regular basis using a solution made by mixing a cup of lukewarm water with ½ tsp of Sea salt; this will prevent the formation of nasal polyps.
3-Saline Rinse (Iodide-free Salt, Baking soda)
- Several commercial sinus rinse devices are available without a prescription. They are convenient to use and can be found in most pharmacies. But you can also make your own rinse at home with only two ingredients and at a fraction of the cost.
- In a clean container, mix 3 heaping teaspoons of iodide-free salt with 1 rounded teaspoon of baking soda and store in a small airtight container.
- Add 1 teaspoon of the mixture to 8 ounces (1 cup) of lukewarm distilled or boiled water. Use less dry ingredients to make a weaker solution if burning or stinging is experienced.
- For children, use a half-teaspoon with 4 ounces of water. If it dried out your nose then start adding a couple of drops of food-grade glycerin (found in the health food stores) to the neti pot. It really helped.
4-Iodide-free or Rock Salt Water
- Rinse the nostril with salt water. Mix a teaspoon of salt in one cup of warm water and rinse. Use an empty sterilized bottle having a spray nozzle.
- Do this 5-6 times a day in each nostril. This will normally drive the irritation away. This treatment will cost nothing.
5-Salt, Baking Soda, Black Seed Oil
- Rinse the nose with 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, and 1-2 drops of Nigella/Black seed (Kalonji) oil in warm distilled water for one month.

- Add 1/8 teaspoon Xylitol to one ounce of colloidal silver to make the rinse solution. Xylitol is available in most health food stores.
- For additional comfort warm the sinus rinse solution to slightly above body temperature or approximately 100 degrees F.
- This solution may also be used with a sinus irrigator to flush out the sinus cavities if a sinus irrigator is available.
- Perform this procedure with true colloidal silver only. Do not use silver protein products. Silver protein products can cause a serious sinus infection if used in the sinuses, adding to a sinus infection symptom.
11-Mesosilver
- Mesosilver can be used in a nasal spray type bottle and sprayed directly in the nose as an adjunct to the sinus flooding procedure. No Xylitol is needed when using a nasal spray bottle.
